Part 1: Basic Modelling using Blender

For the first week we did some basic Blender. I have some previous experience using Blender from a TAFE unit years ago however I am still barely scratching the surface with it. Most of my experience comes from Rhinoceros 3D, and Blender follows completely different philosophies when it comes to modelling.

The Barrel

The first object created was a simply barrel. It is composed of a cylinder that has been manipulated and subdivided into the shape required. The texture was done by me in Illustrator. I didn't actually follow the tutorial for this but skimming through it now I find that I followed it fairly closely anyway (Barrel Tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HggtU6Nzlao

Low Head Lighthouse

The problem with Tasmanian tourist attractions is that the majority of them are just old colonial buildings or unable to be modelled e.g. Salamanca. Being an island however it contains many lighthouses, which make for easy modelling.

Low Head Lighthouse is located on the eastern bank of the mouth of the Tamar River.

Usually with models I have a tendency to over-detail everything, so I tried my hardest to keep it short and simple. There are a few oddities (call it artistic liberties), however I think it came out quite well, and I didn't spend all day on it. There are some finer details missing, such as the weathervane on the top, if I were doing this for actual use somewhere, I would probably do the finer details in Rhinoceros and the port them into Blender, as that would be a lot quicker for me.
